One Day Blog Silence

Saturday night’s all right for SL

April 29, 2007

**Warning: Very long post ahead**

I still have a bit of RL work to do before the degree, and as I’ve done frequently this semester, I’m procrastinating. It was hard to do yesterday, until I received a notice that Annie’s group Toe’d Up was going to be playing. That’s all the justification I needed ๐Ÿ™‚

As always, they were great. Annie’s voice really is outstanding, and it seems like she has some really cool and fun bandmates. They did a mix of covers and original songs. They played “Heart Shaped Box” again (which made me happy) along with an acoustical version of “Freak on a Leash” (and coincidentally, I heard the original later while shopping). I’m starting to learn some of the words to their original songs now as well, since I’ve heard them a few times ๐Ÿ™‚ One of my favorites is called, I think, “What Have I Done?” Annie sounds really fantastic singing it.

Unfortunately, Annie couldn’t get her avie on stage for the gig. The kids are getting too popular, it seems, and are lagging sims where they play. It’s too bad, as this would have been a chance to get a pic of all their avies on stage. I did take some pics of the other band members, though ๐Ÿ™‚

After watching them play, I went shopping. The idea was to get new ears, since I didn’t think the ones I had looked good with the new hair. Yes, sometimes shopping begets shopping (hmm . . . sounding biblical here). Of course, it was another reason to procrastinate as well.

I actually got a little down while shopping. Too much stuff on my mind it seems ๐Ÿ™‚ Plus, I went to the Clothing Fair, and I couldn’t find myself getting interested in anything. Definitely was not like the Hair Fair, even though they put some effort into the design of it, separating the fair into heaven and hell, including dropping some cool sculpts into the sim.

While at the fair, I got an IM from Tobie, who had apparently been into the catnip ๐Ÿ˜ฎ We talked a little bit, and then I logged off, thinking I would go to sleep and maybe be in a better mood when I woke up. But I didn’t. Instead, I logged back into SL, and I’m glad that I did.

I searched a little bit more for neko ears, but after messing with the ears I had a bit, I became satisfied. While out, I was approached by a newbie asking for money. Well, maybe “approached” isn’t the right word. It seems that I was somewhat stalked by this newbie ๐Ÿ™‚ I saw her in Gritty Kitty, looking like she was straight from Orientation Island, though a glance at her profile told me she had been in game for almost two months. I went next door to Refuge (I think that’s the name of the store), and it seems that she followed me there.

I generally do not like it when people ask me for money in SL. For one, an avie can be pretty well equipped for less than US $5 with a little effort, and are there really so many people that can’t afford that? Second, I never approached a stranger asking for anything as a newbie. I asked questions on occasion, but I think I was always already engaged in a conversation with someone before I did that (and now I’m sure I bother my friends with questions way too much). Most of what I learned early on I learned by trying things out and doing research on my own. And all the money I spent was money that I put into the game.

But when this newbie (who actually came into the game less than a month after I did, though I’m sure hasn’t spent nearly the same amount of time in SL) asked me for money, a few things struck me. First, items in SL are relatively cheap, so I really was not giving away much. Also, her asking me for money obviously meant that I didn’t look like a newbie anymore. Our start dates were less than a month apart, yet it seems that I had managed to at least look like I know what I’m doing, so much so that she didn’t bother asking the other people in Gritty Kitty for money, but followed me to the next store. Of course, for all I know, she had already asked everyone in there, or maybe I’m an obvious mark, but I like my explanation better ๐Ÿ™‚ Finally, I like to help people in world. Just earlier that day, I had a guy approach me at Curious Kitties. While I cringed, thinking it would lead to another “sex wiht me” solicitation, he was curious as to where he could find a good neko skin. I suggested he check out Temenos and Hybrid. I was pleased when I saw him later at Ari’s with his new neko skin (coincidentally enough, the male version of the ivory leopard skin I have). His look still needed work, but he managed to win ears and a tail from a lucky chair outside Ari’s. He’ll get there ๐Ÿ™‚

Wow, this is getting long, isn’t it? Anyway, I didn’t want to just drop a bunch of money on the newbie, because there’s still a part of me that is afraid someone may be trying to scam me (damn paranoia). Since she was still (barely) under 60 days old, I offered her the money to buy all of the newbie hair that ETD has. I also suggested she check out places like Free Dove to pick up prim shoes/clothing. In the past, I’ve taken people to these places personally, but I was still a little down, so I just gave her a landmark to ETD, and she was on her way ๐Ÿ™‚

I was still somewhat interested in looking at new ears, so I went to OTCR. After I teleported in, I noticed Briony McArdle, who I recognized from this pic that Faye Gelfand has posted on Flickr. I think she was surprised when I stated that I recognized her from Flickr, and we talked a bit after a friend she roleplays with left. I talked to her a little bit about roleplaying, owing all I know of it to my discussions with Tobie. Before she logged off, she asked if she could add me as a friend, which I happily agreed to ๐Ÿ™‚ I think she was taken in by Victor. Everyone seems to like his cranky ass ๐Ÿ™‚

I did just a little bit more looking around that night and wandered into the House of Paisley. I noticed that they were selling t-shirts from which all proceeds were going to Virginia Tech.

If you’re interested, shirts are bought with a donation of L$100, L$500, or L$1000. You receive both a men’s and women’s shirt, and the shirts do not change based on the amount donated (which I think is a good thing).

I logged off not long after getting my shirt, in a better mood than I had been in previously. I need to quit letting myself get down. There are plenty of reasons not to be ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, if you made your way through this leviathan of a post, congratulations on the feat ๐Ÿ˜‰ And thank you for reading ๐Ÿ™‚

More birthday wishes

April 28, 2007

Yes, someone else I know in world has a birthday today. I don’t know if he’s ever even seen this blog, but I’m sending out birthday wishes to him as well ๐Ÿ™‚

So happy birthday, buddy!

Last night was somewhat of a work night in SL. I cleaned about 500 items out of my inventory (mainly by getting rid of copies of items from complete outfits I had made) and I added a bunch of new textures into Glam Studio to use as backgrounds. For L$350, it’s been a pretty good purchase. It has me experimenting with lights a bit, which will help when I make bigger setups later. Tobie and I talked yesterday about possibly doing an EGL shoot, so I’ll probably try to do a lot with lighting if we do it in my skybox.

I also spent some time shopping last night (no big surprise there). It’s funnyโ€”it almost seems like I’m shopping for new outfits in which to go shopping for more new outfits. I should probably get out and do more than shop and take pics ๐Ÿ™‚

While at Deviant Kitties (which is becoming one of my favorites stores), I came across a short hairstyle called Chloe. And I liked it. It seemed like I was fated to buy it, and who am I to argue with fate? The only problem with it is that it doesn’t work well with my neko ears, so I had to remove them. Anyway, here’s what the new do looks like:

I actually like it quite a bit. I may do some work with my neko ears to get them to look right with it.

I also took a few other pics trying out some lighting configurations with the Glam Studio backdrops. I like the following one quite a bit. You can see a couple more on my Flickr page ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy birthday to . . . ?

April 27, 2007

It’s the birthday of one of the most awesome ladies in SL today, but since I’m not sure if she wants anyone to know, I’ll leave my birthday wishes anonymous.

So happy birthday ____________!

Didn’t do a whole lot in SL last night. Mainly just shopped for a birthday gift for my friend (and stressed about whether I was getting the right thing). Luckily, October helped me with my shopping a bit, though she did make it a little harder on me when she told me I couldn’t just by a gift certificate :/

When I first started shopping last night, I got asked for sex, which is the first time that’s happened in a long time. Maybe I’m a prude, but even if I were open to a guy approaching me just to ask for sex, it would take a little more than asking me where I’m from and then saying, “sex wiht me” (yes, that’s exactly how it was presented). I guess I’m just old-fashioned that way ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, here’s the obligatory pic of the night. This is me in one of my EGL dresses at Victorianna Castle. I actually spent a good amount of time working on this pic today, but you probably won’t be able to see much of the work. But that’s a good thing, right? ๐Ÿ™‚

Post 50

April 26, 2007

Well, I had wanted my 50th post to be something a little special. Instead, I get to use it to complain about losing internet access.

Yes, late yesterday afternoon, soon after downloading the new viewer for SL, I lost internet access and was not able to get online all night. I didn’t even get to try out the new viewer to see how buggy it is ๐Ÿ™‚

I guess I’ll go try it out now. I’m sure there’s a lot going on at 6:30 AM ๐Ÿ™‚

Just so that this post isn’t a total waste, I’ll add in a pic I took this morning. Enjoy!

Tableau . . . and mo’

April 25, 2007

For all of those people desperately checking my blog yesterday to see what I was up to Monday night (humor me), I’m sorry for not posting. I didn’t do a whole lot, except a little window shopping and sending IMs back and forth with a few friends. I did go to a 40s party with Codie and danced a bit (really made me want to go dancing in RL), but I was pretty tired and didn’t stay too long.

But last night . . .

Well, actually last night started much the same way that Monday night went. I visited a few stores and did my best not to spend money ๐Ÿ™‚ I knew I’d be going shopping sometime later, and I didn’t want to spend so much while by myself that I would be miserly afterwards.

One of the places I visited during my window shopping was Tableau. I had been to Tableau once before with my friend Annie, but we were only in Paper Couture, and I didn’t get a chance to see everything else the sim had to offer. I was very happy to see that there was more to it than shopping.

While there, I ate sushi in a water tower, rode a mechanical bull, fell through a refrigerated display case into an underground shop, bowled (and sucked at it, just as in RL), and jumped down a hole into an underground installation with a UFO and aliens ๐Ÿ™‚ I even got to run on a treadmill beside one of my new extraterrestrial friends. I took a few pics, but these were seized when I left :/

Anyway, if you haven’t been to Tableau, it’s definitely worth a trip. If you need more convincing look at the serene beauty as represented in this pic (and while you’re at it, notice the new skin):

Later on, October logged on and invited me to Pleasantville. I was a little nervous because October hangs out with very cool people (which I really am not), but I went ahead and let her tp me. As soon as I tped in, I saw Kriss and Jezebella staring at me. Eep. Of course, they were very nice, but I think I rambled a bit when I first got there, trying to make some kind of good impression ๐Ÿ™‚

After hanging out in Pleasantville a bit, watching Kriss set up her new shop (she’s made some very cool tails), October and I went shopping. The first stop was Deviant Kitties so that I could buy the skin I’m wearing in the pic above. It may be my default for a while ๐Ÿ™‚ We also hit Gearshift, Last Call, and Tableau (had to buy a jacket I saw there earlier). I had met Donovan Brennen, the owner of Gearshift, when I was in the shop previously, and he was at his store when we went back. He’s a very nice guy who makes some really awesome clothes. If you haven’t been to the store, I highly recommend it. The location we went to was at The Block, but I think there’s also some of his stuff for sale at the main Miau Haus store.

Anyway, it was great hanging out with October, as always. I can’t say enough good things about her ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t know how I managed to find such awesome SL friends.

I think that’s it, kids. Thanks for reading ๐Ÿ™‚

Just a few tidbits

April 23, 2007

As you may have noticed, I was gone for part of the weekend. What? You didn’t? Fine.

Anyway, Sunday night was my first night in SL since Thursday (I think), and not surprisingly, I spent the time shopping and hanging out with a friend ๐Ÿ™‚

Early in the night, I bought a new toy called Glam Studio, which I learned about while reading Natalia’s blog. I had seen photo studios in the past, but I never really felt like spending the money on them. This one was only L$350, and I am supposedly going to get a free upgrade whenever the next version is released.

I’m not sure how much I’ll actually use the studio, as I’ve set up a green screen in my skybox that is much larger and that will allow for more flexibility. I do like playing with the studio, though, and I may be able to apply what I learn experimenting with it to my setups against my green screen. If you’d like to see a couple of examples of pics I took with Glam Studio, check out my Flickr page.

If anyone wants to come by and check the studio out for him/herself, just let me know. I’ll probably end up dropping many more backgrounds and poses into it than what it came with.

While I was playing with my new toy, Sexy IMed me and we talked a bit before I tped to the Phoenix Lounge to dance with her. I actually managed to snap a pic of her this time ๐Ÿ™‚ I can’t believe I didn’t manage to earlier.

OK, I’m off to log onto SL. Let’s see what kind of mischief I can get into tonight ๐Ÿ˜‰
