Duettmann Returns!

Nope, it’s not the sequel to B superhero movie—what I am referring to is the long-awaited reemergence of my friend Dirk He hasn’t been around for a very long time, and yesterday, much to my delight, he logged in not once, but twice!

Not only did I get to spend time with one of my bestest guy buddies, but he tped Keeley in as well. I didn’t realize it until yesterday, but I had *never* invited Keeley over in all the time I knew her. Yes, I’m a horrible friend. I’m going to try to work on that . . .

Anyway, Keeley got us together for a group shot, so we have evidence of an actual DD sighting! Hopefully, this will just be the first of many in the coming days

Phoenix’s rez day party

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending Phoenix’s rez day party, and I had a great time. I think it was just what I needed to help boost my enthusiasm for SL again

The party took place in a little club that Wolf put together. On the walls were four picture frames that changed to show different pictures of Phoenix throughout her SLife. It was very cool to see, and it reminded me how we all seem to evolve during our time in SL. Not that I have to tell anyone this, but it really is one of the great aspects of the platform. We’re allowed to try out so many things in a safe environment and around incredibly supportive people. It allows us to put aside some of the (largely) unnecessary anxieties of life and just try to be who we’d like to be.

Anyway, back to the subject at hand

I think everyone had a fantastic time at the party, and we started talking about getting together for more parties soon. Wolf was a great dj, and we need to let him practice on us a bit more so that he can feel comfortable djing around people who aren’t friends (though I know they will think he is awesome as well!).

There was one down point to the night, though—I learned that Arahan is giving up on Flickr After Phoenix’s party, I went to Arthole since Arahan was djing there. I was hoping I would get an answer as to why he’s leaving, but I had to leave the party before being there too long, so I never learned why. I’m sure I’ll find out soon, but it’s really disappointing to know he won’t be a fixture on Flickr anymore.

Pygmalion update

So, I’ve been spending time revamping some of my old shapes (currently working on the neko shapes), and while making shapes can be fun, I’ve realized that I want to do more. Because of this, I think I’m actually going to try to make avatars, including skins and eyes (and maybe someday, hair). I’ll probably be using the Eloh Eliot templates to make the skins for the avatars, but I would also make those skins available for free, as I wouldn’t be trying to profit off her work.

I think my first creation may be a neko avatar, including ears and a tail. I’ll post about the progress of the avie as I work on it.

Oh, and I know that I keep promising a new Kyūketsuki post, and I have every intention of delivering on that promise soon. The problem is that I need someone to help me set up poses for the pics, and so far, it just hasn’t worked out. I have the story in my mind, so once I can actually arrange to take the pics, I’ll be able to make a new post. I apologize for the extremely long wait for chapter 10. I hope that I can get back to posting more frequently soon.

The return of Pygmalion

As you may or may not remember, I very briefly had a shape store in world called Pygmalion. It was not a successful venture in the least, and it did not take me long to close up shop.

Well, I’ve decided to give it another try

Tonight, I started revamping some of the old shapes. I’m going to create new vendors and include different skins on them to give shoppers a better idea of how different skins will look with each shape. Plus, I’m going to price the shapes pretty cheaply.

I may come up with custom model poses for the vendors as well and sell these, too. I’m not sure about that yet.

Anyway, it feels good to be creating things again

Lack of authority

I just went and checked my authority rating on Technorati, even though I really have no idea how the rating is computed or what it means. Anyway, I think at one time, Streeter Scene reached something like a twenty-eight.

Now, I am at a lowly seven.

Does this mean the other blogs don’t respect me anymore? Are they all whispering nasty things behind my back?

Dancing (geek) queen

So, I took a break from organizing my inventory today and finished my night at the Lounge of Dreams. Rosie was djing, and as usual, she provided great music and a lot of personality It was Geeks and Nerds Night, so I put together a geeky ensemble and teleported in . . .

While dancing at the club, I met a nice fellow named Gard. He’s a neuroscience student in RL (hope that wasn’t a secret). I hinted that he should be the geek king for that alone

Anyway, it was nice to get out and not only see a good friend, but to make a new friend as well. Plus, I won the contest for Geek Dame (I think that is what the contest was titled). I kinda won by default, though, since the other three contestants had left the club before the contest was over, and without thinking, I said that after I won. Probably made me seem ungrateful, which I wasn’t. Geeks are supposed to be socially inept, though, right?

Still a lot left to do with my inventory, and I continued to buy things I decided I *had* to have. At least I’m displacing all the bad freebies with quality stuff

The great inventory clean-up

I’ve been procrastinating for a long time, but I’m finally getting around to cleaning up my inventory a little. Reaching over 25K items and knowing that many of them are freebies that I will never, never, ever use made up my mind for me.

That said, I continue to add things to my inventory through purchases and the occasional freebie. I just went to the sale at Ivalde and added a few new outfits to my wardrobe, including one non-sale item that I decided I really needed

Oh, and I found a hair designer whose textures and styles I’ve fallen in love with—Dernier Cri! Aside from the styles and textures, she allows you to try out *any* color on the demo hair through a HUD before you make your purchase, which is an idea I hope that other designers pick up on. For once, you get to see the hair how it will actually appear on your head, so there shouldn’t be any disappoinments about how the hair looks in *your* color. The hair I’m wearing in the picture is her Jenna style, and I’ve been wearing it for several days now. If only I could get my real hair to look like that . . .

Yeah, I suck

So, I came home after work last night, went into SL, and bought brand new clothes to wear to Keeley’s show, including shoes and hair. I had about 45 minutes or so before the show at that point, so I thought I would take a little SL break . . . and I ended up falling asleep, totally missing out on the show

I talked to Keeley later, and aside from an incredible amount of lag, it sounds like the show went fine. I really hate that I missed it, though.

At least I have nice new clothes to wear while I’m working in my skybox . . .

Embarrassment

Have you ever held a conversation in group chat, thinking that you’re in a private chat window? I did so briefly last night in the Arthole group chat. The thing is, I really didn’t even say anything that was really private, but I bet that I turned red in RL when I looked down to see that I wasn’t just talking to Adia, but that anyone in the group could read what I read. I even made a typo. Grrr . . .

Anyway, Keeley has a modeling gig tonight that I plan on attending, so I’ll have the opportunity to embarrass myself in front of a large group of fashionable people. I don’t even have any idea what I’m going to wear. Maybe I’ll log in early and buy something new. I’ve been thinking of purchasing something from Mimikri.

Oh, one final thing—I actually did a little work on chapter 10 of Kyūketsuki last night. It has now been two months since chapter 9, and for those of you who have been waiting for the next chapter, I thank you for your patience Sometimes, I just entirely lose motivation and it takes a while to rediscover it. I hope to have the new post up this weekend, though . . . *crosses fingers*

Second Life’s Next Top Model

So, my friend Keeley is now a model in SL. She was discovered one day while she was out shopping. I can’t say how happy I am for her! It’s very cool that she is receiving recognition for the work she has put in to making her avie so beautiful

This Friday, Keeley is participating in a fashion show, and I’m really excited that I’m going to get to see her in it! It’s great to see a good friend getting some attention

On an unrelated note, May 2008 was the least active month in the history of Streeter Scene. I’m hoping that June doesn’t follow that trend. I just need to see more of my SL friends (hint!) around to get me excited about the platform again. Keeley mentioned an idea for a build that she has been considering, so maybe if she proceeds with that and I get involved, it will motivate me again.
