No, no, no, no, no, no!

January 17, 2008

So, I was in SL earlier tonight talking to my friend Keeley, when I received an IM from an avie I don’t know. Note that the name of the avie has been changed to protect his identity. Why I’m being graceful and giving him anonymity, I don’t know. Anyway, the first message was innocuous enough:

[2008/01/17 14:21] Misguided Avie: Why.. ‘ello..

OK. Could be someone just being friendly. It’s rare . . . but it could happen. Then the second message:

[2008/01/17 14:21] Misguided Avie let his eyes wander along the vampires delicious figure slowly.

OK, this is starting to head down the wrong path, but he’s obviously read Kyūketsuki. I decide to give him the benefit of the doubt.

[2008/01/17 14:22] Chloe Streeter: Hee-hee. I guess you’ve seen the blog?
[2008/01/17 14:22] Misguided Avie: Mm.. a bit..

And then comes the best line I’ve heard since “sex wiht me.” Note that the asterisks are my edit:

[2008/01/17 14:22] Misguided Avie: Tell me.. have you ever been f****d in a dark.. cold asylum?
[2008/01/17 14:22] Misguided Avie grinned.. his fangs protruding slightly over his lower lip.

This may surprise you, but I didn’t immediatly tp him and run off to the nearest asylum. I may regret it later, but it’s the decision I made, and I have to live by it. Instead, I responded thusly:

[2008/01/17 14:23] Chloe Streeter: OK, I think this conversation is over :)

To Misguided Avie’s credit, he didn’t say anything else to me. No insincere apologies. No angry outbursts. He just stopped talking, which I think was actually the most mature thing he could do.

I’ve been in SL for almost a year now, and I still don’t get why SL guys use approaches like this. Maybe I never will.

I <3 Toe’d Up

January 15, 2008

On Sunday, I got to see my friend Annie’s band play in world for the first time since May 24. It was great to finally see and hear them in world once again.

Annie and Geo

I know I say this every time I mention them, but you really should stop by and hear them play. You won’t regret it :)

Got caught peepin . . .

January 12, 2008

I don’t know if it’s a matter of this has always been my nature or whether it’s conditioning brought on by inability to act while on dial-up, but it seems that I’ve turned into a bit of a voyeur. At least, I was yesterday.

When I logged into SL, the first thing I noticed was a fella walking around in an orange t-shirt and blue shorts. From the semi-transparent edges and the mismatched seams, I could tell that these clothes were made with the sliders. Add to that the fact that he was walking around with bare feet, an unshaded skin, and Linden hair, and it was obvious. He was a newbie.

I checked his profile. A rez date of 1/10/08. This guy was literally born yesterday.

Instead of saying anything to him, I quickly moved out of sight and put my camera on him. I watched as he opened the door to our house, went inside, and looked around. It reminded me of my very early days, when I would walk into someone’s home, not realizing that it actually belonged to a RL person. I would sit on their furniture, swim in their pools, and raid their kitchens. Yep, good times :)

A stranger in my house

Of course, our house is rather small, and it wasn’t long before he was bored with it. He soon came outside, enjoyed the view from the beach, and then flew off to bigger and better houses to invade.

With no other newbies to watch, I starting tping around the grid seeking out locations for Kyūketsuki. I ended up in a sim called “The Back Alley.” I had seen this sim come up in search before, but I never visited it because of some of the search words used in its description, such as “rape.” Getting frustrated in not finding exactly the setting I wanted, though, I decided to check this sim out.

When I tped into the sim, I noticed that there were two avies nearby. One was a female satyr. The other was just a normal-looking female avie. I didn’t pay them much attention as I began exploring the sim, looking for just the right spot for Kyūketsuki.

After walking around the sim for a while, I decided to look at one of the tallest, if not the tallest, building in the sim. I walked inside the building, and I decided it had potential. I began camming up through the floors to see what they held. When I got near the top, I once again saw the female satyr and her friend. The only difference was that now the female satyr was sporting a gigantic prim penis.

The scene was so bizarre that I *had* to watch it. And once I told my friend Dirk about it, I had to tp him in to see as well.

The two began trying out different animations on a sex bed that was in the room. They began with the female avie giving the satyr oral sex. The problem was that the prim member actually was above the avie’s head and kept banging on top of it during the animation. I feared the poor girl would suffer brain damage, or at least some type of neck injury. She seemed unphased, though, and they continued until the prim member . . . um, grew.

Yeah, the already ginormous phallus extended so that it was now a few feet long.

I’ll spare you the rest of the details, other than to say that they tried out a couple more positions until they were done. Within seconds, the female avie was fully dressed and ready to go. Dirk and I continued standing on the bottom floor of the building, laughing and joking about the whole spectacle. And then it came:

[2008/01/11 15:46] Female Avie: has you liked?

Yep, I was busted! The thing is, I didn’t feel bad about it. In fact, I thought the whole thing a lot funnier because I’d been found out.

I don’t know why I had no problems watching it. I generally respect the privacy of others. When I walk into an area and hear people making love in open chat, I usually move out of chat range. When I go into a store and witness a couple trying out sex furniture, I avert my eyes and go elsewhere. Yet when it comes to newbies invading my home or satyrs with gargantuan genitalia, I seem to be all eyes. There indeed might be something wrong with me :)

Yay, updates!

January 8, 2008

I’ve been a little busy lately attempting to get pics taken for the next installment of Kyūketsuki as well as with hanging out with friends, and as the people who name not-so-stellar Jack Nicholson movies say, something’s gotta give.

OK, so I actually haven’t seen this movie, and it might be quite good. That’s not the point here. The point is that I’ve neglected this blog for a few days while I’ve attempted to get other things in order. You know, like a certain partnership ceremony. Yeah, don’t ask for a date, because we still don’t have one :)

Anyway (love that word—it helps me escape from so many messes I make for myself), here are the highlights of my last few days in SL :)

On Saturday, I was fortunate enough to spend time with my friend Keeley for the first time in ages. Together, we hit the stores in the Fashion Victim sim. I luckily escaped with spending a minimal amount of lindens :) It was fantastic to spend time with Keeley again, and there’s no way I’m going to let so much time pass before seeing her again!

Keeley and Chloe

Later, I met up with Ginseng, and we explored the Deviant sim together. I loved it! Ginseng was supposed to keep me safe as we walked the halls of the haunted hospital there, but when push came to shove, I was the one kicking open doors so that we could escape :)

Something’s not quite right here

I also talked to Tobie, worked on Kyūketsuki, shopped at ETD (worst lag since dial-up), talked to Adia, and shopped for men’s clothes . . . but all that has to wait, as RL work is pulling me away. *sighs* I’ll post back soon :)

For those of you keeping track . . .

January 6, 2008

Today makes eight months with Tobie.

Kyoot as can be!

We’re still a little bit up in the air about the wedding (where to have it, etc.). If anyone has any recommendations, please feel free to share them :)

What SL is all about

January 4, 2008

Yesterday, I wasn’t having the best day. Nothing was going terribly wrong, but there were numerous little blunders and disappointments that gave me an overall *blah* feeling. Usually when things go this way, the whole day is shot, and I can’t wait until I can get a fresh start again the next morning.

But yesterday, after returning home from work, tired and a little grumpy, I logged into SL, and that made all the difference . . .

I began by talking to Annie. Yeah, you all know Annie. I’ve only mentioned her on here like a thousand times ;) Anyway, it was the first time we’d had a chance to talk in a while, and it was great to catch up on things. Also, she told me that her band Toe’d Up is playing in world a week from Sunday! It’s been a long, long time since I’ve had an opportunity to listen to them, so it will be great to hear them again! For anyone who’s interested, I’ll post the info as their gig approaches. You really should make an effort to attend, because they really are great!

While speaking to Annie, I thought I’d go check out some of my old SL haunts. And by old, I mean first-month-in-world old. I started out at The Blue Tattoo. It was here that I first met my friend Tommy, with whom I used to play poker (until he took all my lindens on more than one occasion). Back then, the Tattoo was separated into a dance area and a poker area. Sadly, the poker area is gone, and the dance floor is much different than it used to be. Though I recognized a few people there, I don’t think anyone had a clue about who I was. Maybe if I had put on my old newbie hair and clothes . . . :)

I tped from the Tattoo to the Voodoo Lounge, another club I discovered early in my SL days. I remember walking into the Lounge when no more than a week or so old wearing blinging earrings, shoes that lit up, and bat wings. Yep, that was when gaudy was in style ;) It was at the Lounge that I met my friend Sexy, who unfortunately decided to leave SL this week :/ Anyway, the Lounge had changed since my early days as well, but not to the extent of the Tattoo. I didn’t recognize anyone at the Lounge, though, and I was ready to tp out when it happened . . .

Rosie Barthlemess tped in!

I probably sat here with my mouth gaping open like an idiot when it happened. I mean, what are the chances I run into someone I have never met in world but admire on the ultra-rare occasion of visiting an old club? I was *so* excited and couldn’t help but inundate her with IMs the whole time she was at the club :)

Eventually, Tobie came online, so I tped home after Rosie returned to her club (she was scouting the DJ at Voodoo). It was the first time Tobie and I had been able to spend time together since I proposed to her. Let me say, it made me *so* happy to see her again! It’s like we both get wrapped up in our other SL activities, but when we get together, we wonder why we spend so much time apart :)

Tobie had yet to go to the new sim for Kyoot Army (a landmark for which Annie had fortunately provided me earlier in the evening), so Tobie and I went to see it. After we did a little shopping (Tobie gave me a gift card with which I bought a lovely gown from Kyoot), we plopped down on some pillows in a store called little things (I think that’s what it was called, at least). While we sat chatting, both of us dolled up in our new dresses, Saeya Nyanda walked by.

I had seen Saeya in Imogen one night while hanging out with Dirk, but I didn’t say anything to her. I’m glad that she stopped by to chat with Tobie and I, as I found her to not only be a talented designer, but a very friendly, cool person as well :)

So, regarding the title—yeah, to me, this is what SL is all about. After a rough day in RL, all I had to do was log into SL to turn things around. I got to speak with good friends, the kitten I love, and I got to meet two very cool, intelligent ladies whom I’ve admired for some time! This is why I keep coming back :)

Obligatory New Year’s resolution post

January 1, 2008

Happy 2008, everyone! I can’t believe we’re eight years into this decade now. It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were on the verge of the dreaded Y2K and the end of modern civilization :)

Anyway, on to business. Though I wasn’t in SL for a full year (missed it by a little over a year), and though I was gone for much of the time due to the hardships imposed by the evil dial-up connection, I do believe that I am somewhat wise in the ways of SL and have an idea of what I can do in the next year to improve the Second Life experience. So, without further ado, here is my list of resolutions for the upcoming year (listed in no particular order):

1. Contact my friends more, if just to say “hi.” Yeah, there are some of you that I haven’t talked to in a while, and believe me, it’s not because I have nothing to say to you :) It’s just a time management issue. Lately, I’ve either been working on projects and/or with Tobie, so I haven’t been that outgoing. One reason for this is that I’m never sure at what point to end a conversation. Will people be offended if I just IM them to do a quick check-in? Is that worse than not contacting someone at all? Well, if it is, you’re just going to have to tell me so. You’ll also have to let me know if I go on too long. I can do that on occasion ;)

2. Force myself to finish the things I begin. Within the first month or so of being in SL, I created a Maria costume (from Silent Hill 2) and started a Lisa costumes (from Silent Hill 1). I’ve always wanted to go back and tweak the Maria costume as well as finish the Lisa costume, but I haven’t. There are some other clothing items I’ve worked on as well that have been untouched in quite a while. I would like to finish this stuff not only to have it done, but also to improve my design skills, as I would like to be able to create some of my own items for Kyūketsuki.

3. Partner with the cutest neko in SL. As you probably know by now, I recently took the first steps in this process :)

4. Attend more social functions. What better way is there to reconnect with friends than to attend functions where many of them will be?

5. Have my arch-nemesis, the Communication window, eliminated. He’s almost always there, on my monitor, staring at me. I ask him if he might consider shrinking a bit so that I can see more of what’s behind him, but he refuses to comply. Instead, we fight constantly, as I move him from side-to-side, corner-to-corner. Somehow, he always manages to cover the spot I want to see. He’s like that incompetant supervisor you have to deal with at work—he thinks he’s doing a good job, but all he’s doing is making life more difficult for *everyone*. I don’t know how, but I’ll find a way to dispose of you, Communication window. Your days are numbered.

OK, that’s it. We’ll see how many of these I accomplish *crosses her fingers about number 5* :)
